Liberal Democrats Senator David Leyonhjelm has continued his push for the title of Australia’s Grottiest Politician, branding Malcolm Turnbull a “pussy” and a “soft cock” after the Prime Minister suggested he should apologise for his earlier slur on Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young.

Leyonhjelm has been on a tear since Thursday, when he told Hanson-Young during a Senate debate that she should “stop shagging men”. He has repeatedly refused to apologise for the remark, maintaining that he was responding to an assertion by Hanson-Young to the effect that all men are rapists. The fact that he can’t produce the actual quote, and that Hanson-Young has denied saying anything of the sort, is apparently besides the point.

On Tuesday, Malcolm Turnbull said he thought Leyonhjelm should apologise to Hanson-Young for his “offensive” remark.

“That type of language has no place in Parliament, it shouldn’t have a place in any workplace,” said the PM. “Respect for women in particular is one of the highest priorities that we should be focused on.”

To which Leyonhjelm responded with all the tact and grace we have come to expect from him.

“This is about misandry,” the Liberal Democrat told SBS. “The Prime Minister should stop being such a pussy. This is about criticism of all men. It’s just as bad as criticism of all women.”

In a seperate interview with Fairfax, Leyonhjelm accused Hanson-Young of “grandstanding”.

“She loves playing the victim, it’s about the only thing she’s good at,” he insisted.

He also reportedly called the Prime Minister a “soft cock”, which is just delightful.

Hanson-Young, for her part, has accused Leyonhjelm of “slut-shaming” her and called for his resignation. She has also engaged lawyers ahead of a possible defamation action.
