Coolio Just Gave A Shout-Out To The Canberra Light Rail Network Because Life Is Ridiculous
Yesterday it was Jacqui Lambie, today it's this.
The Canberra Times reported this morning that iconic rapper and noted town planner Artis Leon Ivey Jr, aka Coolio, has given a shout-out to Canberra’s proposed light rail system, because Australian politics is fucking ridiculous.
“I think a light rail system is dope”, Coolio told Fairfax reporter and student of the game Henry Belot via email. “It’s a very inexpensive form of transportation and very easy to get around, so yes, it’s dope”.
Bear in mind Coolio is best known for this:
He also weighed in on a controversial development being planned to revamp the old Yarralumla Brickworks in Canberra’s inner south; specifically, the claim from one resident that high-density development in urban areas leads to “ghettos of crime and god knows what else”.
“Don’t worry about that because if you are it’s probably already a ghetto,” Coolio replied sagely. “If you growing and coming up in the hood find a way to make it better or find a way to get out Shaka Zulu!!” His advice on ghettos is probably worth listening to considering he grew up in an actual ghetto (ie. fucking Compton) rather than what the imagination of a frightened old person turns a leafy suburb of bloody Canberra into.
To provide the barest hint of an explanation for all this, Coolio’s performing at Canberra’s Transit Bar on August 4, and is giving interviews on the public transport networks of small regional cities because times is hard, apparently.
For something slightly less bizarre, here’s Gangsta’s Paradise poorly mashed up with the theme from Thomas the Tank Engine.
