US talkshow host Conan O’Brien has certainly been making the most out of his visit to Australia. First he tried his hand at football (spoilers: it did not go well). Then he spent some time hanging out with the surf lifesavers at Bondi Beach. But no trip down under is complete without that most true blue experience of all: running afoul of Sydney’s nonsensical lockout laws. And boy did O’Brien have something to say about them during his standup set at the Sydney State Theatre on Wednesday night.

“The whole impression that is out there about Australia is that you guys like to party,” he told the sold out crowd. “Everything we hear in the United States is if you want to get crazy, if you want to get nuts, go to Australia.”

“Then I get here and the first thing I find out is that you’ve outlawed marijuana, it’s illegal here. It’s legal everywhere now. I don’t know if you know that but the United States is the most uptight place in the world and it’s legal there. It’s legal at the Vatican, but not in Australia.”

“No shots after midnight?” he continued. “Are you putting up with that?”

“Leave the bar after 1:30am and you can’t get back in? What is that? I’ve been everywhere. That law doesn’t exist in any place!”
