The Biggest Crime Committed In Netflix’s ‘Clickbait’ Is Pia’s Damn Haircut

Honestly, the true victim of 'Clickbait' is Pia for having to deal with that hair.

If you’ve watched the new Netflix limited series Clickbait then you know that an unbelievable number of crimes occur during its short eight-episode run.

— Warning: Major spoilers for Clickbait ahead. —

Of course, we had the most notable crime that formed the basis of the whole series: Nick Brewer’s kidnapping and eventual murder.

Clickbait, which follows the Brewer family’s desperate attempt to locate Nick before the threats on his life come true, saw crime after crime unfold as each key player in the investigation gave their point of view.

For example, beyond the main crime in question, we saw Dawn Gleed’s identity theft, her hubby Ed’s hit-and-run and murder, Ben Park’s two cases of breaking and entering, and Matt Aldin sharing a student’s nudes online without permission.

Curtis Hamilton also assaulted Nick in a bar, then Kai Brewer did the same to a fellow student at school, and Emma Beesly not only lied to the cops, but also stole a bunch of sunflowers to put at Nick’s memorial, too.

However, even with that long list of crimes, there was no bigger violation in Clickbait worse than Pia Brewer’s damn haircut.

Pia Just Isn’t Likable

First thing’s first, we need to admit that Pia Brewer just sucked as a character.

In episode one, ‘The Sister’, Pia was made out to be a wild party girl who had problems with her brother before his disappearance. But despite their disagreements, Pia was vocal about being the one person most invested in finding Nick — yet her actions often didn’t reflect her words.

For example, why would Pia — someone who constantly complained about the police not doing enough to take down the video of her brother — constantly add to the view count herself by refreshing the clip?

Or, if Pia was so desperate to save Nick, why didn’t she offer her phone in as evidence when authorities first asked for it? And why did she constantly get in the way of the investigation by tampering with evidence, like jumping on Matt’s computer to find the “catfish evidence”?!

The simple answer? Because she’s selfish, that’s why.

Even though everyone else around her — like Nick’s wife, children and mother — were also grieving, Pia loved to act like she was the only one allowed to be hurt.

Sophie literally lost her husband and Pia knew full-well that Sophie had a “no shoes in the house” policy, yet she still stomped around the Brewer house with muddy boots. Pia also withheld the news that Nick had been kidnapped from her mum and then had the nerve to get mad when her mum shared that she was, rightfully, upset she wasn’t told.

Hell, even when Pia went back to work and saw everyone watching the viral video, she lost it and made everyone turn it off despite spending every five minutes refreshing the stream herself.

Simply put, Pia is the type of person who loves to be the victim. Despite easy solutions surrounding her at all times, Pia chose to stay in a bad place for sympathy.

She started arguments only to leave halfway through when they didn’t go her way, she bossed around the police and acted as if she was entitled to know every detail of the ongoing investigation, and she straight-up acted like a six-year-old throwing a tantrum at times — like when Nick and Sophie decided to not buy a bread maker. Unbelievable stuff.

Basically, Pia Brewer is the worst.

But Pia’s Haircut Is Somehow Worse

Clickbait Netflix Pia Hair

Look at it. It’s giving Gabbie Hanna breakdown blonde. It’s giving $17 Shein wig.

Even with how bad Pia is as a character, her haircut in Clickbait is the worst part about her.

I can’t tell if it’s just the way the show was colour graded to give it that ~moody~ effect or if the hair is meant to be a reflection of the character’s current mental state (which is borderline sociopathic), but the blunt bob and fringe combo was hard to look at.

Whether you compare Pia’s hair to the singer Sia (which surely can’t be a coincidence, right?!), Helga from Hey Arnold or He-Man, the fact is the choice to style Pia’s hair like that was distracting from the plot of Clickbait.

And if you’ve watched The Kissing Booth 3, you’ll know exactly what I mean by distracting after seeing how Joey King’s random pixie cut ruins the entire vibe.

This isn’t a dig at the actor who played Pia either, by the way. Zoe Kazan is a great actress with great hair in real life.

Back in March 2020, at the premiere of The Plot Against America, Kazan had her hair styled in a similar way to her character in Clickbait — and filming for the series was done in Melbourne around that same time. So I’m pretty certain that Pia’s hair in the show is not a wig.

But the frizzy, choppy way her hair was styled along with how yellow the blonde came out after editing, made Kazan look like she was wearing a wig made of straw.

And viewers agree: The biggest killer of Netflix’s Clickbait wasn’t hammer-happy Ed Gleed. It’s the hairstylists who worked on Pia Brewer to give her that cut.

If you can look past Pia’s hair, you can stream Clickbait on Netflix now.
