“This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation.”

Chris Pine has broken his silence on the infamous spitgate saga, confirming that Harry Styles did not spit on him.

If you’ve been unable to focus on anything other than the absolute chaos that was the Don’t Worry Darling premiere at the Venice Film Festival, you’re not alone. The entire event was totally unhinged and included multiple viral moments for social media to have a field day with, including the allegation that Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine.

For those of you who may have somehow missed it, a clip went viral on social media that appeared to show Styles spitting on Pine — prompting Pine to pause mid-clap in what looked like sheer disbelief.

But a representative for Pine has since quashed the rumour, confirming that the “ridiculous” rumour is absolutely false.

“This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation,” a spokesperson for Pine told People.

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men, and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

While the representative for Pine was quick to blame the internet for causing what they claim is baseless drama, I am inclined to believe that the absolute chaos that was the Venice premiere is all part of some viral marketing stunt for the film.

Spitgate was just one of many wild moments at the premiere, including Pine “astral projecting” and Harry Styles kissing Nick Kroll on the mouth.

Representatives for Styles were contacted for the People story but did not respond.
