Everyone Is Roasting The Accents In The Devastating Disaster-Drama ‘Chernobyl’
Why is everyone British in the Soviet Ukraine?
Sometime during the 1980s, a nuclear reactor in the Soviet Ukraine absolutely biffed itself, and just horribly asploded. That reactors name… was Chernobyl.
It was a huge disaster, famed throughout history as being bad and no good!
Now, those incessant drama lovers at HBO have turned that big meltdown into a five-part historical drama television miniseries, which features an ensemble cast led by Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård, Emily Watson, and Paul Ritter.
It’s, no joke, compelling and devastating viewing, that is remarkably relevant in 2019 (especially as we watch selfish bitches in power basically explode the entire world).
However, while the critics have been almost unanimously in effusive praise of Chernobyl, there is one little detail which people keep getting stuck on.
Namely the fact that everyone working in the Ukrainian nuclear reactor have CRISP and POLISHED British accents for some reason.
Chernobyl is so good so far but anyone else put off by the actors accents ? Didn’t realise so many Yorkshireman worked at the power plant ..

I can't get past the British accents on Chernobyl. "Well blimey looks like we is in a bit o' bovva wif the Central Comi'ee when I has to tell 'em me reactor's burnin' innit?"

Why the fuck do half of the characters in Chernobyl have British accents when they’re fucking Ukrainian?

Odd how everyone who worked at Chernobyl had English accents.

Really looked forward to watching #Chernobyl but the accents are really annoying me. Didn't realise it happened in Wakefield. "Eyup pal, somats gone tits up with that big melty thing". Called olev but owns a fucking whippet 😂

To be fair, at least we didn’t get a whole bunch of Americans doing terrible Russian accents. I mean — you could just cast some Russians/ Ukrainians, but what would I know, I’m not a Hollywood big-wig.
@ everyone complaining about the British accents on Chernobyl… think of how bad and unwatchable it would be if the actors were all pretending to do Russian/Ukrainian accents?? Like…????

I licherally don't understand why anybody would want the cast of Chernobyl to do slavic accents, like literally do not get it. The whole audience would just be sitting around like 'dude….these accents are horrible why the fuck did they do that'

HBO’s Chernobyl: real fuckin good. I can’t imagine giving two shits about “meh English accents” either. It’s a Sky co-production. That means it’s a UK PRODUCTION.
Having English actors do bad fake Russian accents would’ve been terrible. pic.twitter.com/gU8PVvPXxS

Reading the comments about #Chernobyl, I see that some viewers are very confused by the British actors not putting on terrible fake Russian accents. I see their point. Like I love HBO's Rome, but it would have been way better if Caesar had to go, "It's ah me eh Juliuseh Caesar."
