The Chainsmokers Are Being Slammed Over Their Not-So COVIDSafe Concert In The Hamptons
Goldman Sachs' CEO also DJ'd the event.
EDM DJ bros The Chainsmokers have been slammed for continuing a concert in the Hamptons despite the crowd flagrantly disregarding social-distancing measures, as the drive-in audience simply left their cars to create a regular dancefloor.
The event, to be clear, did seemingly have all the right social distancing practices in place. Temperatures were checked upon entry, parking spots were generously spaced, and masks and hand sanitiser were handed out to those who needed them (as per Consequence Of Sound). But that doesn’t matter when the crowd simply congregates together to get a little ‘Closer’.
In video footage taken from The Chainsmokers’ label head Adam Alpert’s Instagram, you can see the crowd give up to live their best lives — and now, both they and the band are being slammed online.
“When NY gets the inevitable spike, just blame these rich selfish white people”, wrote @FirenzeMike.

For those who thought that The Chainsmokers had perhaps already committed their biggest crimes against humanity, the footage only cemented everything they suspected about the EDM bros.
the chainsmokers suck and have always sucked but now they are responsible for deaths, instead of just a terrible “music” marketing campaign

people expecting the chainsmokers to enforce social distancing has never heard closer, which is a song about stealing mattresses from roommates, biting shoulder tattoos, and listening to blink-182. they don't follow rules. sorry. it's in the song.

Imagine getting diagnosed with coronavirus and you have to admit to all your family and friends that you got it from going to a chainsmokers concert

The event was for charity, and didn’t just feature The Chainsmokers. Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon was their support, DJ’ing as DJ D-Sol, and told Bloomberg that the event was “absolutely beautiful”.
“Standing up there and watching the sunset, looking out over this huge field of cars and people on their cars, it was absolutely beautiful,” he said.
“If we work together and are thoughtful, we can do things that feel more normal and allow us to live with this virus safely.”
The Chainsmokers got a bag, but I can’t stop thinking about my 60+ year old parents who live here in NYC, just a quick drive or train ride away from the Hamptons.
Fuck every one of y’all who participated in this. https://t.co/BrKkeqktsV

In response to the videos, the NY department of health is now investigating the concert, calling it “an obvious public health threat.”
Back in 2018, The Chainsmokers announced they’d be working on a film based off their song ‘Paris’: hopefully they continue working on the script and add a juicy ‘ignore health regulations and help cause a pandemic to spread’ part. It can even be part of a cute tour montage, as The Chainsmokers plan to take this gig on the road and visit several more US states.
