Remember Tiger King?

It feels like approximately 600 years have passed since the Netflix miniseries took over our feeds and our lives. That was way back at the beginning of the outbreak, when some people were still saying coronavirus would be over by June (ha!)

In the months since, the show’s stars have occasionally popped back up into the news. But none have resurfaced in a manner as confusing and frankly bizarre as Carole Baskin, who is currently involved in a massive beef with none other than rapper Cardi B.

See, last week, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion dropped a video for their smash hit ‘WAP’. At one point in that video, Cardi can be seen stroking a captive tiger. That’s far from the most memorable thing about the video, which also contains golden butts and Kylie Jenner, but it’s the moment that attracted the ire of Baskin.

“You have to pose a wildcat in front of a green screen to get that image, and that doesn’t happen in the wild,” Baskin said of the footage of big cats. “It can’t happen in sanctuaries like ours where cats have plenty of room to avoid a green screen — or would shred it if offered access and could die from ingesting it.”

Cardi being Cardi, she had to clap back to those claims, which she did in memorable manner by repeating an unsubstantiated story that Baskin murdered her first husband. “Like, that’s just ridiculous, you know?” Cardi said. “Oh, Lord. Like, girl, you killed your goddamn husband.”

For the record, Baskin is probably right. Unless it’s entirely CGI trickery, Cardi did utilise a captive tiger, perpetuating an ugly industry that harms animals.

But still, that doesn’t take away from the fact that Cardi’s response is pretty bloody wild. 2020 is gonna 2020, I guess.
