Britney Spears’ Father Has Finally Been Suspended From Her Conservatorship

Britney Spears’ father Jamie Spears has been suspended from her conservatorship.
As reported by The New York Times, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny today granted a petition from Britney Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart to remove Jamie from the conservatorship. Californian accountant John Zabel has been named a temporary conservator over the singer’s finances.
Jamie Spears’ lawyer reportedly requested the entire conservatorship should end immediately — but Britney’s team pushed for a suspension instead, accusing the other side of attempting “to avoid accountability and justice”. A further hearing, seeking termination of the conservatorship, will instead take place in 30 to 45 days.
“The current situation is not tenable,” said Judge Brenda Penny said during the court hearing. “It reflects a toxic environment which requires the suspension of Jamie Spears, effective today.”
“The conservatorship can and should be wound up and terminated promptly — ideally this fall,” said Rosengart. “Britney Spears deserves to have her father out of her life as a conservator, today.”
Earlier this month, following intense public pressure, Jamie Spears filed a petition to end the conservatorship entirely. He had previously begun proceedings to step down as her conservator. He has been largely in control of the singer’s life since the conservatorship was put in place in 2008 as an emergency — and supposedly temporary — measure, due to concerns over the singer’s mental health. In recent years, the arrangement has come under scrutiny — Spears recently spoke in court about how the situation has “traumatised” her, that she cries every day, and that she just wanted her life back.
