So Is There A ‘Breaking Bad’ Movie Or Nah?
You up for some more science, bitch?
Wait, wait, wait, wait… what? Multiple publications are running with stories at the moment saying a Breaking Bad movie is not only happening but shooting in New Mexico this month? Hmmm…
Rumours about spin-offs, sequels, prequels and reboots of pretty much any pop culture entity are increasingly rife in 2018, but is the AMC mega-hit which captured critics and audiences alike from 2008 – 2013 really copping a whole movie’s worth of continuation?
The solitary source for this completely out of nowhere slice of “news” is from an article in the Albuquerque Journal which claims a movie set to start shooting in Walter White’s hometown, going under the supposedly fake name of Greenbrier, is, in fact, a full-blown Breaking Bad movie.
Whilst an unnamed source in a local newspaper isn’t exactly the most dependable fount of knowledge, there are a few more tidbits floating about that MAY indicate that this hot goss is on to something.
The first is the fact that Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad and currently airing spin-off Better Call Saul, has recently signed a three-year deal with Sony Pictures, who just so happen to be the studio behind Greenbrier.
The other arguments for it being a sneaky BB movie include the fact AMC just greenlit a bunch of Walking Dead movies, so there’s precedent there, as well as the extremely vague description for Greenbrier consisting of “the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom”. If you’ve seen the final moments of Breaking Bad, you can easily imagine how that could be applied to a certain Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul).
So, whilst we have zero confirmation from Sony Pictures, AMC, Vince Gilligan, Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul, a Breaking Bad movie COULD be in the works and popping up sooner than later.
Plausible? Sure. Likely? I have no fucking idea.
As you were!
