We’ve all kinda grown inured to how terrible the world is.

I mean, we spend almost every day staring at a little device that feeds us a stream of nightmares, from updates on the approaching (and seemingly inevitable) climate catastrophe, to the ever-spreading, out of control political garbage fire over taking the States, to the fact that some people genuinely believe tomato sauce is stored in the cupboard and not the fridge.

But every now and then a new piece of terrible news comes out of the left field, hurting you in ways that you didn’t imagine you could necessarily be hurt.

So, here goes: Boo, the world’s cutest dog, has died “of a broken heart.”

Yep, that one stings, hey?

Boo, an impossibly fluffy and cute Pomeranian, first developed a social following on Instagram, amassing some 570k followers.

But before long, Boo’s influence spread to other sites, and the pup became a powerhouse on Facebook, where he could be seen lazing around on his many beds, snuggling up with his best friend and fellow Pomeranian Buddy, and generally being a force of good in the world.

Boo was also a bit of an entrepreneur.

He rubbed shoulders with celebs like Seth Rogen, authored his own book, and landed a number of highly-desirable brand deals.

But, alas, despite his multitude of skills, Boo was not immune to the ravages of time, and he passed away peacefully of heart problems at the age of 12 in his sleep.

More traumatic still, his owners are convinced that the heart problems are a result of Boo missing his best mate Buddy, who died back in 2017.

So yeah, that shit sucks, hey?

“Our family is heartbroken, but we find comfort knowing that he is no longer in any pain or discomfort,” the dog’s owners wrote on Facebook. “We know that Buddy was the first to greet him on the other side of that rainbow bridge, and this is likely the most excited either of them have been in a long time.”

Dearest friends of Boo,With deepest sadness I wanted to share that Boo passed away in his sleep early this morning and…

“We love you with all our hearts and will miss you until the day we meet again. Have fun running around with Buddy and creating adorable mischief wherever you guys go.”

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go lie down in the foetal position for a little while in an attempt to convince myself that the world has any light left in it.
