Australia's 14th Prime Minister is now a video game character. So that's cool.

This is the most patriotic moment of my life.

The team behind one of the most popular game franchises in history, Civilization, have announced that Australia will become a playable faction for the first time in the series’ 26 year history. The next premium DLC pack for Civilization VI will unlock the ability to play as Australia, led by wartime Labor Prime Minister John Curtin.

Civilization VI is a turn based strategy game where players pick a nation from different points in history like Egypt, Rome, America and England, build cities and attempt to take over the world through military conquest, diplomacy or scientific and cultural domination. The original Civilization game, released back in 1991, famously featuring global warming as a consequence of too much pollution.

If only Malcolm Turnbull did a bit less investment banking in the 1990s and a played a bit more Civ we might not be in this current shitfight over renewables.

The Australia DLC will include a new unit known as the Digger, a unique improvement called Outback Station that provides food and production bonuses and a special ability called Land Down Under where beer does flow and men chunder. Seriously though, the Land Down Under ability gives cities a bonus when they’re built on the coast, just like real Australia.

It’s ‘Straya! In Civ!

The choice of John Curtin as Australia’s in-game leader is pretty apt given how much of Civ involves fighting off other invading nations. He lead the country between 1941 and 1945, when Australia was facing the threat of Japanese invasion, and is credited for establishing the welfare state. Before joining the Labor Party he was a radical socialist, journalist and WA president of the journalists’ union, the Australian Journalists’ Association.

John Curtin as an in-game character. This is too wild.

If you’re a conservative and a fan of Civ, sucked in, you’re going to have to play as an Australian socialist if you want to do your patriotic duty.
