At least on paper, Billie Eilish has had an unbelievable few months.

She’s picked up a shedload of Grammys, been selected as the next performer to record an iconic Bond theme, topped the Hottest 100, and basically become one of the most influential and beloved musicians in the game.

But that kind of success can only bring a backlash, and Eilish has been feeling that pretty hard recently. In fact, the young musician has almost entirely disconnected from social media and the internet, choosing to post, but not to interact with the comments section.

“I stopped reading comments fully,” Eilish said in an interview with BBC Breakfast. “It was ruining my life…The cooler the things you get to do are, the more people hate you. It’s crazy.”

More recently, Eilish referenced that viral hate in her acceptance speech at the BRIT awards. “I’ve felt very hated recently,” Eilish said, after picking up the Best International Female Solo Artist award and performing her Bond theme, ‘No Time To Die’.

“And when I was on the stage and I saw you guys all smiling at me, it genuinely made me want to cry. And I want to cry right now, so thank you.”

Eilish appeared wracked with emotion as she delivered the speech, audibly choking up.

Then there’s the matter of her live performance. ‘No Time To Die’, might have sounded a little flat in recording to some, but her version of it at the BRITs was transcendent, bursting with heart and with life.

I mean, just watch:

Truly, she deserves so much better than what some people on the internet are choosing to give her. Watch the full BRIT awards speech here:
