Get In Formation: Beyoncé’s Netflix Special Is Out Right Now (Oh, And There’s An Album Too)
It's the first time you can catch Beychella in HD.
After a brief moment of peace and quiet, the Beyhive is abuzz yet again.
Since it was teased a week ago, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé, which follows Beyoncé in the lead-up to her game-changing headlining ‘Beychella’ set at Coachella last year. And now, the 2 hour documentary is out — as is a previously unannounced live album, featuring 40 (!!) tracks, including three with Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
Given how vigilantly footage from the performance itself was wiped from YouTube post Coachella’s live stream, Homecoming serves as the first proper chance to experience the entire show in HD. Plus, there’s never-before-seen backstage footage, which means we’ll learn how the elaborate and precisely-choreographed performance came to be in the first place.
In case you need a reminder, Beyoncé’s Coachella set was historic. She was the festival’s first black woman to headline, and the career-spanning set, which featured 60+ people on stage as a marching band and dancers, decked out in fictional Beyoncé university wear, was a schooling and celebration of blackness.
Jay-z, Solange and Destiny’s Child also all made appearances. ‘Homecoming’, as the special’s name, makes sense, given it shares a name with Bey’s scholarship program for students at HBCUs (Historically Black US Colleges and Universities).
The special premiered at midnight LA time, which was a much more convenient 5pm AEST — what else are you doing with your Wednesday night? So fire up Netflix, head on over to the new releases and stream to your heart’s content. Watch the trailer below to get hyped, and stream Homecoming: The Live Album wherever you do that.
