The world of video games is full of weird dating simulators. Games that let you date monsters. Games that let you date weapons. Games that let you date horses with human heads.

These are all fine and fun, but some people’s desires for their love lives aren’t so avant-garde. Some people just want a simple life, with good friends, a good partner, and some very good doggos.

Announced this week at Gamescom via a very charming trailer, Best Friend Forever is a video game in which you give a forever home to a pup, who then helps you find a forever home for your heart.

After moving to Rainbow Bay, meeting your new furry friend and starting to settle into your new community, you encounter several other attractive, single people and their dogs. And it looks like there’s potential here for much more than puppy love.

Best Friend Forever promises a diverse range of love interests, but you won’t be left out in the cold if nobody catches your eye. There’s a sandbox mode that will allow you to simply pet, play with and care for your dog endlessly, unconstrained by the fetters of time and responsibilities. Well, any responsibilities unconnected to your pup. It sounds like a very soothing way to pass the time.

Also, not only can you pet the dog, but you can get a combo streak for doing so. This could be 2020’s Game of the Year.

Developed by New Zealand’s Starcolt Studios, Best Friend Forever seems like the kind of wholesome game that leaves you feeling good after playing it. It also looks as though it will have some pretty terrible Australian slang, which I am 100 percent here for.

Best Friend Forever is scheduled for release on 14 February 2020 on Nintendo Switch and PC. I need it now, please.
