Ben Lee has taken to his surprisingly popular TikTok account to share a story about the making of the music video for his megahit ‘Catch My Disease.’

The song was the lead single from Lee’s fifth studio album, Awake Is The New Sleep, and the banger that turned him into an international tour de force. Shooting to number 27 in the Australian charts, ‘Catch My Disease’ featured on everything from car ads to an episode of Gray’s Anatomy. It even won Song of the Year at the 2006 APRA Awards, beating such other classics as ‘Better Days’ by Pete Murray and ‘The Special Two’ by Missy Higgins.

The song hasn’t gone out of style, either. It was given a viral burst of popularity last year, when Lee shared a mash-up of ‘Catch My Disease’ and a video of Donald Trump dancing at a campaign rally. And hey, given that whole lockdown thing, that chorus sure feels timely, hey?

Now, Lee has pointed out that the music video for the song features a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from one of the biggest DJ megastars in the world, Steve Aoki.

Aoki appears in the video for a fraction of a second, standing in the background and doing the song’s trademark handclaps. It’s a beautiful moment of pure 2004 nostalgia, one made even better by the photos of Lee and Aoki together that the former popstar has included in his TikTok video.
