Model, Bella Hadid was directly targeted by Israel’s official Twitter account after she attended a pro-Palestine march yesterday.

The 24-year old Palestinian-American has always been outspokenly proud of the Palestinian heritage she inherited from her father, Mohamed Hadid. On Instagram, Hadid posted a photo of her paternal grandparents who were married in Palestine in 1941 before they, her father, aunties and uncles were made refugees in 1948.

Like thousands all over the world, this weekend Bella Hadid also attended a pro-Palestine march. Posting photos from the march she attended, Hadid wrote, “The way my heart feels.. To be around this many beautiful, smart, respectful, loving, kind and generous Palestinians all in one place… it feels whole! We are a rare breed!!”

Bella Hadid even live-streamed a part of the march, showing herself waving the Palestinian flag alongside protesters. While she has frequently used her platform to advocate for her ancestral homeland, this time her livestream caught the attention of the official Israeli Twitter account.

The occupying state’s official Twitter directly tweeted at Bella Hadid, tweeting, “When celebrities like @BellaHadid advocate for throwing Jews into the sea, they are advocating for the elimination of the Jewish State. This shouldn’t be an Israeli-Palestinian issue. This should be a human issue. Shame on you.”

It’s worth mentioning that Bella Hadid has never advocated for throwing anyone into the sea. As she says, in her own words from her own post:

“This is not about spewing hate on one or the other. This is about Israeli colonization, ethnic cleansing, military occupation and apartheid over the Palestinian people that has been going on for YEARS! I have been told my entire life that who I am: a Palestinian woman — is not real. I’ve been told my father does not have a birth place if he is from Palestine. And I am here to say Palestine is very much real and the Palestinian people are here to stay.”
