It’s Been Five Years Since The Chaotic ‘BBC Dad’ Interview And The Kids Are Growing Up Fast
Professor Kelly shared a picture of what the kids look like now to celebrate.
Can you believe it’s been five years since the pivotal moment that was BBC Dad?
You’ll recall that in 2017, a BBC News anchor conducted an interview with Professor Robert Kelly about Geun-hye’s then ousting as President. The interview started doing rounds, though, when Kelly, seated in his home study, was interrupted by his toddler daughter Marion, who strutted into the room with confidence and verve.
His baby son quickly followed suit, rolling into the room on a bouncer. Kelly’s wife, Jung-a Kim, then rushed in to de-escalate the situation. Please, let us revisit the moment together:
Kelly said at the time that the interview made him worry he’d never be asked back, but the moment had the opposite effect: he returned to the BBC News several times, did a press conference at Pusan National University and was later interviewed by prestigious US outlets including the New York Times and NPR.
Five years on, Kelly has embraced his internet stardom, and his Twitter bio includes the words ‘BBC Dad’. While his tweets are pretty politically-oriented, he recently took to the platform to make a very important announcement.
“Today is the 5th anniversary of the ‘BBC Dad’ event and probably the last time I will mark this date here on Twitter,” he wrote yesterday. “My wife and I remain deeply grateful for all the kindness about our kids over the years. Thank you.” He added: “If you follow me on Twitter because of it, I hope you’ve found it a good follow beyond the occasional picture of my kids.”

And here are some other nice recent family pictures.
Thank you again for all your kind words over the years.

We just hope that Marion and James are still bursting into rooms like it’s nobody’s business. We wish them nothing but the best.
