Disney Has Cast Awkwafina As The Seagull In ‘The Little Mermaid’ So Everyone’s Screeching

The Little Mermaid is really being that bitch when it comes to casting.

Sure, it started off a little iffy — while Melissa McCarthy will absolutely do a wonderful job as Ursula, it is a shame the character won’t get more of the queer homage that an octopus lady based on Divine deserves.

But yesterday, everyone was thrilled to hear that Halle Bailey, who is best known as one half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, was cast as Ariel, the titular smol mermaid. She’s literal perfect casting, just listen to her sing.

Now, it’s been announced that Awkwafina (Ocean’s Eight, Crazy Rich Asians, the upcoming The Dark Crystal adaptation) has been cast as Scuttle, an exuberant seagull. Once, again, perfect casting! Also, a tiny boy actor named Jacob Tremblay has been cast Flounder, an innocent fish, but we are less excited about that.

Let’s talk about how perfect Awkwafina is for this role.

Of course, The Little Mermaid doesn’t even have a release date yet, so we’ve got a while to see how this all turns out.
