Despite her Republican challenger raising $10 million in a bid to unseat her, our fave Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has sailed through to win her second term in Congress with 69% of the vote.

John Cummings, a 60-year-old former Catholic school teacher and NYPD officer, tried to capitalise on how well-known AOC has become in order to win against her. His campaign bought out millions of dollars worth of ads and hundreds of thousands on mailing voters.

Republican strategist confirmed that he was only able to raise this money because of the fact that he’s up against AOC. “I guarantee you 75% of his contributors don’t know anything about him. I don’t know anything about him except that he’s running against AOC. The people that are interested in that race financially are giving because it’s AOC.”

Of course Ocasio-Cortez is a highly skilled fundraiser herself, and managed to raise almost double Cummings’ amount (about $17 million), largely from small donors. She has previously said she refuses to take money from business related political action committees (PACs), who use their big money to influence political decisions.

Americans are rejoicing at her win, during a no-doubt stressful day.
