Anne Hathaway is currently out and about promoting her new Apple TV series, WeCrashed. The series tracks the rise and fall of the lovers at the centre of the grifting workspace design company WeWork.

Naturally, this means doing the rounds of daytime and nighttime TV and so Hathaway was musician Kelly Clarkson’s guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show. During a regular segment of the show called ‘Sing That Name That Tune,’ Hathaway and Clarkson went head-to-head with mics in hand.

To win, Clarkson or her guest must guess the song being played by the band and sing it before the other. Yesterday, Clarkson jokingly asked the band to play something she knew, after Hathaway had won the first three rounds. So, they started on the first few bars of Clarkson’s break-up classic ‘Since U Been Gone.’

Despite the song being Clarkson’s, however, Anne Hathaway triumphed, impressively belting out the iconic chorus first. A laughing Clarkson conceded defeat on her own song, laying face-down on the podium. “How did you know it from just that?!” Clarkson squealed at Hathaway when the music stopped.

“Kelly Clarkson, if you do not understand how much we all love that song,” said Anne Hathaway, taking her win graciously. “Everybody here knew it on the first one. Everybody here knew it!… I love that song.”

Clarkson couldn’t stop laughing. “Should I just quit? Oh my God,” she said. “This is embarrassing. Whatever, I’m so happy for you. Jesus, take the wheel.”

The whole thing is daytime TV chaos from start to finish. Some have been impressed that Anne Hathaway can sing — but lest we forget how she belted out QUEEN’s ‘Somebody To Love’ to a gaggle of giants in Ella Enchanted. Or, you know, that Oscar she won for portraying Fontine in Les Misérables. Girl has pipes.
