“This Isn’t Funny”: Amy Shark Got Stuck In A Truck Moments Before NRL Performance
They were stuck inside for 45 minutes.
It’s tough being a performing artist at a sporting event. For a start, no one is there to see you — in fact, no one is there to even watch music, they’re there to watch men get pummelled into the dirt.
Secondly, the sound is generally not the greatest, rendering even the best sounding artists into a tinny mess. Most terrifyingly, if you mess up, you run the risk of being compared to Meatloaf at the AFL. And then sometimes, on top of all that, you get stuck in a makeup van right before you’re due to run on stage.
That’s the fate that befell Amy Shark on Sunday just before she stepped up for her snappy set before the NRL Grand Final. As she revealed in a TikTok yesterday, she and a member of her team became stuck in a truck backstage after the door jammed shut. The two of them valiantly hammer on the door release button, but to no avail.
“This is not funny!” Shark yells at one point. “I gotta go to the toilet!”
The crew outside did their best to pry the door open, but it wouldn’t budge — meaning in the end Shark was forced to clamber out the window. She confirmed to Music Junkee they were stuck inside for 45 minutes. Watch it all go down below.
You can also watch Shark’s full Grand Final set below, in which she dropped a slew of hits including ‘I Said Hi’ and ‘Everybody Rise’, as well as a surprising cover of INXS’ ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ — complete with a Kirk Pengilly sax solo.
