We Rounded Up The Best ‘We Will Adopt Your Baby’ Memes For Your Enjoyment

You don’t need us to tell you that the United States is in crisis.

The landmark 1973 decision Roe v Wade was walked back on last Friday, after the Supreme Court found no constitutional right to an abortion — empowering almost half of US states to ban the medical procedure.

As protests swelled all over the country, including the grounds of the Supreme Court in Washington DC, one couple seemed absolutely ecstatic about women being stripped of their basic rights, holding up a sign that read: “We Will Adopt Your Baby”.

People were understandably troubled by the couple, whose Cheshire smiles — amid a very real human rights crisis — seemed to bely something much more sinister.

Of course, it goes without saying that adoption is not an alternative to abortion access. Nine months of forced pregnancy, followed by the invasive process of giving birth, and then giving that baby to someone else, is no small feat. As Victoria Richards writes in The Independent, “if only things were as simple as they seem to be in the heads of people who carry such damaging, pie-in-the-sky idealism written in Sharpie on a piece of cardboard!”

As one adoptee tweeted, “forced birth and subsequent relinquishment benefits neither the biological parents nor the child”. John Oliver also pointed out this week, that “even when planned, pregnancy is, best cast scenario, a major medical event that rips open your butt, rips out your organs, and then puts them back in wrong”.
