This Mash-Up Of Adele And Megan Thee Stallion Will Melt Your Brain
This has no right to be this good.
Adele and Megan Thee Stallion are two of the most bombastic, maximalist performers in pop, a brace of game-changers who have only ever done what they’ve wanted to do.
Sure, there are on the surface some differences between the two artists. Adele deals in heartbreak; Megan Thee Stallion in a furious kind of joy. But beneath these contingent differences, there lies the same belief in the power of the self; an understanding that the world is as you make it, and that anything can be bent to your will.
This is pop music of the most vibrant, expressive sort, a way of making art that reaffirms the glorious power of creation. Each word that comes out of the performers’ mouths seems to speak to some great, untapped wellspring of talent and resilience. Nothing will get them down; nothing will stop them from choosing their path, and then following it, all the way to the end.
So, given those similarities, it is perhaps unsurprising that the pair work so well when combined together. Yep, a YouTube mash-up genius by the name of Mash Art has combined Adele’s ‘Water Under The Bridge’ and Megan’s ‘Body’, imposing the tear-stained chorus of the former with the insistent, iron-wrought verses of the latter.
It is, in short, one of the most astonishing mash-ups in recent years, an endlessly listenable work of art that rewards extra attention. And then there’s the video itself, which is ingeniously edited to make it seem as though the two performers are bouncing off each other, Adele winking at Megan and dancing slowly to her pitch-perfect raps.
