Whether you’re going through a break up yourself, or a celeb-couple split has you seriously shook, the end of a relationship can be really shitty. In times like these, you may need a bit of comfort. You might roll your eyes at this suggestion, but stick with us. Poetry.

Reading poetry is a really simple and relaxing way to deal with your shit. We’re not talking complex poetry, or something written centuries ago. We’re talking about Instagram Poets, or “Instapoets”, who’ve come to fame through social media. (Yes, Instagram is more than just pictures of smoothie bowls.).

Here are some of the best to help you through that break up.

#1 Rupi Kaur (@rupikaur_)

We have to start with the Queen of Instagram poetry. Rupi Kaur shot up to fame after building up a huge following on social media.

Her book ‘Milk and Honey’ is a brilliant collection of poems which tackle tough themes like trauma, love and loss – perfect for any break up scenario.

The poems are extremely empowering and are accompanied by Rupi’s own illustrations that act as visual punctuations.

#2 Lang Leav (@langleav)

Lang Leav became a bestselling poet after publishing her collection ‘Love and Misadventure’ online. She has released four books of poetry, and has recently published her first novel.

All of her work deals with the consequences of love: heartbreak, longing, jealousy, happiness.

#3 Pavana (@mazadohta)

Addressing themes that we can all relate to – self-acceptance, loneliness, love – Pavana’s work is impossible to put down. Her book was an instant bestseller and her poetry, with its raw imagery, will definitely help you through a break up.

If you haven’t already, stop what you’re doing and check out her work.

#4 Tyler Knott Gregson (@tylerknott)

Knott Gregson burst onto the social media scene by posting a haiku on love every day for six years.

His style of angsty heartbreak poetry will be sure to help you out in times of need. His feed is filled with daily haikus as well as raw poems from his ‘Typewriter Series’.

#5 R.M. Drake (@rmdrk)

A self-published author, R.M. Drake’s work has been featured on the Instagram feeds of celebrities like the Kardashians. His poetry is slightly longer than the poets we’ve already mentioned.

Dealing with self-exploration, Drake has the ability to find the beauty in being broken and his work is truly inspiring.

#6 Iain S. Thomas (@iwrotethisforyou.me)

Thomas has plenty of bestsellers but our personal favourite is ‘I Wrote This for You’, which is about (you guessed it!) love and heartbreak. He’s been in the game for a while – in 2009, he was voted one of the top 5 finalists worldwide in the “Best Blogger to Follow” award.
