5 Acts at Falls Festival We Can’t Wait To See

Rejoice festival heads! Falls Festival is back for the first time since 2019!

This year, a few things have changed at Falls, with a new venue in Birregurra, Victoria and Fremantle, WA alongside the well loved Byron Bay event, each taking place during the New Year’s period.

And the line-up. Oh boy the line-up.

If you’ve never been to Falls before you should know the line-up this year has a slightly more electronic skew than previous years but is still stacked with some big hitters from every seat of the musical table.

Here are a few that we can’t wait to see:

Lil Nas X

How much more do we even need to say? If you’d have told us three years ago that the Old Town Road kid was going to be headlining Falls Festival we would have assumed it was a meme booking. Never would we have thought he would be the main event.

Holy hell how wrong we were. Still riding the success of his debut album MONTERO, Lil Nas X is fast being recognised as one of the premier artists of a generation. Combining hip hop, pop, and his distinctly cheeky style, Lil Nas X is sure to give us a fest defining set of madness. Plus, you just know his outfit, or outfits, are going to be something else.

Arctic Monkeys

Don’t you even try to say you didn’t get that warm, fuzzy feeling inside when you saw Arctic Monkeys on the Falls Festival line-up. Like a comfortable pair of jeans for your ears, the Arctic Monkeys are the soundtrack to the messiest of memories, usually reminisced over with the people you love the most.

The Sheffield four piece’s last album was Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino in 2018 but lead singer Alex Turner states they have a new album pretty much ready to go meaning you’ll have some new Arctic Monkeys songs to accompany the classics this New Years Eve.

Amyl & The Sniffers

Pubby and punky, there’s a lot to love about the trailblazing Melbourne act Amyl and the Sniffers. Their snare heavy drums and hard rock riffs are made all the more unignorable by the raw and energetic vocals of vocalist Amy Taylor who describes her music as being similar to the drug for which the band was named: “So you sniff it, it lasts for 30 seconds and then you have a headache – and that’s what we’re like!”

After coming in at 28th in the 2021 triple j Hottest 100 with hertz, the rowdy ode to rental cars off their second studio album Comfort to Me, the Melbourne four piece won Best Live Act at the 2021 Music Victoria awards. Now that’s an act we just have to get excited for.

CHVRCHES

Not a lot of electropop acts keep the good vibes coming quite like CHVRCHES and if you’ve ever seen them live before you already understand why they are on this list. CHVRCHES last came to Australia for the 2018 Falls Festival where they were described as “sublime to say the least.”

The Glasgow trio’s unique brand of synth and indie pop are perfectly complemented by vocalist Lauren Mayberry’s emotional vocals which we can confirm really hit much harder as you watch from the front row.

King Stingray

A big shout out to Darwin and Arnhem Land, we cannot wait to see King Stingray bring their amazing live show to the Falls main stage. Self-described as “Yolŋu surf rock”, King Stingray continue the tradition of mixing classic pub rock with Indigenous Australian language and instrumentation. Think an updated Warumpi Band or Yothu Yindi, the latter of which founding members Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu and Roy Kellawy are descendants of.

Indigenous instruments such as yidaki (didgeridoo) and bilma (clapsticks) work with the creamy and tearaway melodies to create sonic landscapes that might just be more Australian than anything else you’re likely to see at Falls.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Genesis Owusu, Ocean Alley, Peggy Gou, and Jamie xx are all making an appearance on this certified whopper of line-up! Check out the whole line-up and get your tickets below!

Rolling into 2023 at Byron Bay NSW, Birregurra VIC and Fremantle WA, Falls returns with a huge crew of artists that are set to make all your new year festival dreams come true. Tickets on sale now at fallsfestival.com
