Just when you’ve resigned yourself to a political landscape dominated by liars, racists and onion-eating lizard men, along comes a candidate to restore your faith in this crazy little thing called democracy.

Not the hero that #auspol deserves, but the one it so desperately needs right now, Eva Laing is a 10-year-old student at Brightwater State School in Mountain Creek, Queensland, who made her play for the position of school captain with an absolutely outstanding rap.

“My name is Eva, I’m a quiet achiever / you need to vote for me so I can be a school leader,” rapped Eva to assembled students this week. “I got passion, persistence, determination / all I need is your participation.”

Although the rap was a little light on policy, the candidate did promise to look out for sick students. “We’ll raise some money, for sick kids sake / because everybody loves a mean cupcake.”

Video of Eva’s performance was posted to Facebook by her father Paul, where it has since been viewed more than 12,000 times.

“I thought I kind of wanted to do something a bit unique,” Eva told Sunshine Coast Daily. “I’d like to wish all the other candidates good luck and I know they’ll do amazing because they’re so talented and amazing and kind.”

Laing went on to win the election, because of course she did. Pretty sure I’d vote for her over most of the representatives in Federal Parliament…not that that’s necessarily all that high of a bar.
