So, turns out the ABC is basically our Netflix; this was unexpected.

Overnight, the network announced that Chris Lilley’s new series, Jonah From Tonga — his follow-up to last year’s much-hyped but awkwardly received Ja’mie: Private School Girl — would be getting a pre-TV release on their online service, iView. The entire six-part series will be available in a Netflix-style binge from 6pm Friday May 2 until 6pm Sunday May 4 (AEST), before the show premieres properly on Wednesday nights on ABC1 from May 7 at 9pm.

Jonah from Tonga is a thrilling series, coming out in the most thrilling era in television,” said Lilley’s co-producer on the series, Laura Waters. “Chris and I will always put the fans’ experience first. We’re so excited that people can choose their own way of getting involved with Jonah!”.

“Last time we caught up with Jonah Takalua, he was expelled from Summer Heights High. Jonah From Tonga sees Jonah now in a new school, but still up to his old tricks. The Tongan rebel finds himself in hot water with plenty of fights, frenemies, break-dancing and law-breaking,” added the press release, by way of helpful synopsis. I hope those ‘old tricks’ are mainly just a whole bunch of ‘dicktation’ gags. Good start, Instagram.
