Fresh from their headlining spot at last month’s Splendour in the Grass, UK trio The xx have announced they’ll be returning to Australia for a run of tour dates next January.

The band will hit Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney — where’ll they take over The Domain, in what will be their biggest solo Australian performance ever.

Supporting them at every show are two huge internationals: Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt and Kelela, whose long-awaited debut album Take Me Apart will be out on Warp Records in October. Check out all the dates below.

The tour will mark almost a year to the day since the release of their third album, I See You.

Speaking with Music Junkee, vocalist Oliver Sim explained the difficulty the band had in bringing the multi-layered album tracks to life on stage.

“It’s been an absolute nightmare,” Sim said. “Seriously, it’s been an absolute nightmare.

“I will be honest, a lot of it has fallen on Jamie. I wish people could see what Jamie has got at the back of the stage. He is kind of an octopus. If you ever watch him on stage he’s kind of like darting from one end to another playing as much as he can.”

Initial difficulties aside, Sim says these shows are the best they’ve played: “We’ve got a whole new vibe. We’ve got a lot of brighter moments that we’ve never had before. We’ve actually been able to make people dance, which we’ve definitely never done before. It’s just amazing.”
