While You Were Sleeping, N*Sync Were Reuniting

Aargh. Also, the PS4 got a local release date, Avril made out with Winnie Cooper, and Spike Lee added some women to his 'essential films' list.

N*Sync (is that how you write it?) are going to reunite at the MTV VMAs this weekend, OMG OMG

Get ready to lose your marbles, millennials. According to the New York Post, Justin Timberlake and all his washed-up former boy-bandmates — J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Chris Fitzpatrick (the pineapple-headed one) — will be performing together for the first time since 2002 at this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards. Oh shit, think of all the white-pantsed, crazy-leg stunts coming our way!

This is what it must’ve felt like for the apostles when Jesus came out of that rock-tomb thing and was all like “Oh hey, yeah I’m back. Nah, don’t make such a big deal, Thomas. I need a drink…” or whatever happened.

Australia, your Playstation 4 has a release date

November 29 (the 333rd day of the year!). Add it to your diary. And add $549 to your bank account, ’cause that’s what you’ll need to take it home. Please don’t steal it; it’s quite heavy and awkward to carry and you’ll probably get caught.

Hey perverts, watch Avril Lavigne make out with The Wonder Years‘ Winnie Cooper in the music video you’ve been waiting your whole lives for

So, Avril Lavigne’s still making music! Her new single ‘Rock N Roll’ borrows the stompy hook of Joan Jett’s ‘I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll’ and makes it a bit stupider, but the track’s silly post-apocalyptic video makes it all worthwhile, if just for the bit where she locks lips with real-life Winnie Cooper and then pauses for a hammy Kevin Arnold-esque voiceover.

Oh yeah, we forgot to mention the ‘November Rain’-style guitar solo, the fight with the BearShark, and the weird cameo by Billy Zane (aka ‘The Phantom’, aka ‘The Fake Damon Bradley’). It’s basically a Buzzfeed list in a music video.

Spike Lee added some female directors to his ‘Essential Films List’

A few weeks ago, famed director Spike Lee drummed up some interest in his current Kickstarter project by releasing a list of what he considered the most “essential films” for any aspiring cinephile. “Cool list,” said the internet, “but you forgot that women make ‘essential movies’ too. Also, John Candy?”

In an updated post on his Kickstarter page today, Lee acknowledged his myopia: “As the fall semester nears at NYU Grad, we thought we would reprint my revised essential film list (with women directors). Many of you informed me of that omission. Thank you for the coat pulling.”

Good work, Spike! The added films are:

The Piano, Jane Campion (1993)
Daughters Of The Dust, Julie Dash (1991)
The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow (2008)
The Seduction Of Mimi, Lina Wertmuller (1972)
Love And Anarchy, Lina Wertmuller (1973)
Swept Away, Lina Wertmuller (1974)
Seven Beauties, Lina Wertmuller (1975)

Um yeah, so I guess Spike Lee hasn’t seen all that many female-directed movies? Still, it’s the thought that counts.
