If you’ve ever seen his 1995 cult film Welcome to the Dollhouse, then you know that director Todd Solondz likes taking twisted things and make them funny. The story follows 12-year-old Dawn Wiener as she tries to navigate classmates who hate her, boys who ignore her and the general tyranny of high school.

Now Solondz has created a semi-sequel to the dark-comedy called Wiener-Dog, starring Greta Gerwig as the grown-up Dawn. It also stars Danny DeVito, Kieran Culkin, Zosia Mamet, Julie Delpy and Ellen Burstyn. Don’t be put off by the tinkly indie music — Solondz is not one for cutesie tales.

Wiener-Dog is released in the U.S. on June 24.
