I fucking hate horror movies. They are scary, and I am five years old. I even get freaked out by crappy horror movies where the plot is blindingly obvious, the special effects are laughable and the Bad Thing is an angry-looking sock puppet, so when one comes along that actually looks well-made, well-written and genuinely scary, I’ll avoid it for years until it’s on TV one late night and I can’t turn away from watching it and then I never sleep ever again and I check behind every door for murderers and oh God.

The Babadook, a smart, creepy psychological horror set in the Adelaide suburbs, grabbed a heap of praise after its premiere at Sundance in January. Its Australian run began back in May, and now it’s getting released in the US on November 28. The new trailer to hype it up came out the other day, and it looks friggin’ terrifying.

I will not be seeing this movie. This movie will be lying on the floor of my bedroom when I get home tonight, and it will be seeing me.
