He's lovin' it.

Whether you like the food or not, you probably have some pretty cosy memories tied up in Maccas. A dress-up birthday party where you were too excited to realise the jungle gym stank of pee. Dirty hashbrown fingers on the steering wheel during roadtrips with friends. The late-night burger which made the critical difference to your hangover the next day. Maybe even a small comfort while you were homesick and travelling overseas.

Too bad it’s all based on the crushed dreams of Winklevosses Nick Offerman and John Caroll Lynch and the cut-throat capitalism of milkshake-maker salesman Michael Keaton. The Founder, directed by John Lee Hancock, tells the story of McDonald’s transformation from innovative local restaurant to global nugget-pumping machine. Its first trailer just dropped this morning to shit all over your morning McMuffin:

As we wrote around the announcement of the film last month, The Founder seems to fall in line with an increasing trend of films which seem to somehow both critique and glorify capitalism. Michael Keaton’s Ray Kroc is a daggy old dad version of Jordan Belfort. He’s Eisenberg’s Zuckerberg and Timberlake’s Sean Parker all at once. But he’s also the reason you can grab some dirty Maccas whenever you want rather than wait four hours for some cruel and pointless pop-up.
