Watch John Oliver Reveal Some Pretty Frightening Things About Drone Strikes
This is kinda terrifying.
Last Week Tonight just aired possibly its most serious segment yet, probably because it’s kinda difficult to squeeze jokes into a thirteen-minute segment about the US unmanned drone program without coming across like a bit of a sadist.
Instead, John Oliver and co. have revealed just how disturbing the US’s twelve-year practise of ordering drone strikes against militants is; besides having nothing resembling a clear and transparent set of rules around the use of drones, apparently the US doesn’t even know how many people it’s killed in drone attacks, or exactly who some of those people are.
Incidentally, you have to wonder how a British comedian whose main claim to fame before this was a bit part in Community is doing a better job at holding powerful people to account than most journalists.
