Maybe don't watch this before going on that weekend getaway.

We’ve all been there: you go away with a group of friends for the weekend thinking it’ll be relaxing and awesome, but three hours in you decide that all your friends are actually morons and begin contemplating the different ways you could murder them, before convincingly pleading temporary insanity in front of a jury.

Well, Elisabeth Moss’ new film Queen of Earth is kind of like that.

Director Alex Ross Perry’s psychological thriller about friends, a holiday at a beach house, and “an exploration of broken women” seems like a horror film straight out of the 1970s. Those title cards! The music! And how often do you hear voice overs in trailers anymore?

If the creepy ‘too many hands touching your face’ thing doesn’t capture your interest, surely the promise that Queen of Earth will “shake the very foundations of insanity” does.

Queen of Earth will be in cinemas from August 26.
