Watch A Deeply Weird Video Of Amy Schumer And Anna Wintour Swapping Jobs For A Day

Still not as weird as her latest Vogue profile.

Vogue is one publication that wants you to know that they know the internet. That’s why they’ve taken to uploading snappy video segments to go with their celebrity profiles in print (remember Margot Robbie’s American Psycho homage a few months ago?).

To coincide with Amy Schumer’s July cover of Vogue, she and a very game Anna Wintour have made a video in which they swap lives for a day. Amy is a slob who doesn’t care about fashion! Anna is too uptight and fussy to be a comedian! etc.

The video is actually quite adorable in its weirdness, but the same cannot be said about the accompanying profile. While many people were thrilled that Schumer managed to land the coveted cover spot, they were less thrilled with the way she was described by writer, Jonathan Van Mete.

Basically, there are large sections of the story which vaguely describe Schumer in a way that suggests that Van Mete doesn’t really know or care about who she is. Quotes like “she is lightning fast and whip smart, a New York Jew with a copy of the Times tucked into her bag” and “her worldview is surprisingly broad for someone who has made a career out of playing ‘the drunk slut’ for laughs and talks about her pussy so much that anyone is now free to say that word on her network” seem devoid of any fresh insight and kind of read like Van Mete is not very interested in his subject at all.

Pop culture critic Julianne Escobedo Shepherd has written before about Vogue‘s bizarre tendency to rely on older male writers to profile female celebrities — which is sometimes fine of course, but female writers barely ever write cover stories for the magazine — which often results in “gendered value judgments” about their subjects and a reliance on cliches.

Hm. Maybe just skip the profile and just watch this on a loop?
