One of 2016’s biggest show’s, Ryan Griffen’s genre-breaking superhero series Cleverman, is returning to our screens this week!

Cleverman 2 picks up the story where we left off, just six months after the events of Cleverman 1, with brothers Koen (Hunter Page-Lochard) and Waruu (Rob Collins) still at odds, and Slade (Iain Glen) still up to all kinds of no-good.

The trailer for season two, which dropped a few weeks ago, is painfully exciting stuff. The series, which is introducing a controversial new “cure” for the Hairies (spearheaded by Slade and apparently supported by Waruu) is going full X-Men, with more superhero pastiche and more allegorical storytelling.

The first two episodes of the new season, directed by the fabulous Leah Purcell, blew viewers away at the Sydney Film Festival last week.

Now Junkee has an exclusive new has a brand-new exclusive clip of what’s to come! This heart-stopping short video, which features Waruu’s wife, Nerida (Jada Andrews), and her daughter in a sticky situation with the Containment Authority, introduces a kickass new Hairy superhero who arrives to save Nerida and a legion of other Hairies from harm.

Meet Jarli, a Bindawu warrior played by Clarence Ryan. And, look: dude can fight. He kicks some serious Containment Authority butt, and I am here for that.

Cleverman 1 spent a decent chunk of its time setting up the complex world of Griffen’s series, and the short first season wrapped up just as we were settling into the exciting business of storytelling. Cleverman 2, which premieres this week on ABC and iView, promises to be next-level engaging, heart-racing and all things good.

So, if you were planning to catch up on the series (which I highly recommend), now is the time to do it. The entire first season is streaming on iView now, and I will be installed in my living room re-watching this week. If this new clip is anything to go by, the second season will be well worth a watch.

Cleverman season 2 premieres on Thursday, 29 June at 9.30pm on ABC.

The cast and creators of Cleverman are coming along to our inaugural Video Junkee festival in July, a new annual event for lovers and creators of online video.
