In what feels like proof that good things do happen to good people, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and his family have been reunited with their cat, Smokey, eight months after he went missing.

The Premier took to Facebook yesterday to share the good news with the people of Victoria. “Smokey was a few suburbs away from the house, shaken and skinny and stressed – but unhurt,” wrote Andrews. “We don’t know what she’s been up to. But we do know she’s home.

He went on to thank the RSPCA and the “good Samaritan” who found Smokey, and reminded people to get their pets microchipped. “It might just be the difference between a missing cat and a miracle.”

Andrews also shared a short video of the moment that his three adorable children were reunited with the family pet, and while a small, cynical part of my brain can’t help but think of this as a politician using his photogenic kids to score points with the electorate, a much larger part of my brain just thinks that this is really nice.
