Hollywood’s newest anti-hero is here: the full trailer for Venom just dropped, and we finally get to see Tom Hardy as the creepy ol’ lizard-man-thing.

And with all the new details that have been revealed in the trailer, we can piece together exactly what the plot’s going to be. Here’s what we know: Eddie (Hardy) is a reporter who’s investigating a mysterious foundation, which is facing allegations that they “recruit the most vulnerable for tests that end up killing people”.

He is approached by someone (Jenny Slate!) from the Life Foundation who says that she’s found something mysterious — they call them “symbiotes”. The Foundation believes that the union between humans and symbiotes (the symbiotes look something like a cross between a dementor and the beast from Stranger Things upside down) is the key to human evolution.

Next minute the symbiote is doing some freaky stuff to Eddie, reaching to punch people from inside his chest, and grabbing onto motorbikes with weird gooey, black web.

There’s a lot of conflict between Eddie and his new symbiote. The symbiote acts and sounds pretty evil, and Eddie  is trying hard to… not kill people.

At one point in the trailer, the tension between the two things (the one thing?) becomes clear.

“If you’re gonna stay, you will only hurt bad people,” Eddie demands of the symbiote.

The symbiote responds: “The way I see it, we can do whatever we want.”

Fans also seem happy-ish that they’re finally seeing a little more of Venom in full form. There was a fair bit of criticism when the teaser trailer came out and barely showed a glimpse of the new anti-hero.
