These Tourists From Chicago Are The Biggest Stars At The Oscars
"I feel like you're ignoring all the white celebrities."
The 89th Academy Awards are underway and some wonderful people are getting the recognition they deserve. Viola Davis has won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Fences. Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight, becoming the first Muslim actor to ever win an Academy Award.
Mel Gibson is also there for some terrible reason.

But the biggest stars of the night so far may be an incredibly cute and decidedly not-famous couple from Chicago. Midway through the show, host Jimmy Kimmel orchestrated a bus-load of tourists to stumble into the Dolby Theatre in LA, where they thought an Academy Awards exhibition was underway. The group were then seemingly surprised by hundreds of the world’s most famous people staring and laughing at them.
Luckily, it turned out pretty well. The group was led by an engaged couple, Gary and Vicki, who spent their time filming everyone’s faces with their phone cameras and getting impulsively married by Denzel Washington.

The best bit is when Gary quickly passes over Nicole Kidman, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling to bee-line to Octavia Spencer and Denzel. “I feel like you’re ignoring all the white celebrities,” Kimmel says, awkwardly laughing. “Yes I am!” Gary replies, joyously.
