Ooooh boy. Fans of Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake have had to wait an awful long time for their second fix. The first season of the mystery drama premiered back in 2013, and we’ve just now got the first taste of what’s next.

In season two — titled ‘China Girl’ — Elisabeth Moss’ Detective Robin Griffin is dealing with a murder case in Bondi. Also, no big deal but she’s joined by Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones‘ Brienne of Tarth) and Nicole motherfucking Kidman. The murder in question involves a dead body found in a suitcase at Bondi Beach (how fun’s quality TV, you guys?).

While in Sydney, Griffin also tries to reconnect with her biological daughter who was raised by adopted mother Julia (Kidman). It turns out her daughter’s boyfriend may also have ties to the murdered girl from a brothel she once worked at. While that storyline sounds like it could be ripped straight from True Detective, it should hopefully be executed with a lot less cringe.

If you haven’t seen Top of the Lake before, this is a great time to catch up! The first season of the series picked a slew of awards including an Emmy, a Critics Choice award, a Golden Globe, some AACTAs and even a Logie. Though the show is a co-production between Sundance and BBC, the crew and cast are largely comprised of Australians and New Zealanders and the first season was produced and set in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Turns out this side of the world does creepy pretty well.
