Tony Abbott’s obsession with Q&A drove a big chunk of political debate and a series of increasingly despairing Junkee articles (check the URLs) over the last month or so, before finally getting knocked off the What’s Everyone Angry About This Week pedestal by Speaker Bronwyn Bishop’s re-enactment of the beach scene from Apocalypse Now on the taxpayer dime.

Besides being salutary examples of the noxious trash fire our political system has become, both episodes illustrated how much the government hates being criticised for anything — Cabinet ministers still aren’t allowed on Q&A, Bronwyn Bishop still won’t take one for the team and resign, and the government continues to respond to any questioning of its conduct with a press release that’s just the words “shut up, shut up and stop being mean, why are you so mean to us, what about our feelings” written over and over again in crayon and tears.

Minister for Feels Donald Glover could not be reached for comment.

Happily, webseries At Home With Tone has returned after a bit of a hiatus to imagine how Tony might best work to shut out the nasty, snooping world around him — by taking over Q&A, shooting it in the Abbott family household, and fielding questions exclusively from his wife and daughters, all under the rigorously impartial eye of new host Bronwyn Bishop.
