The deciding match of rugby league’s State of Origin happened last night, if you were wondering what that noise was, and Queensland beat New South Wales so resoundingly they actually own Lismore now. Little-known State of Origin fact: if Queensland win by 40 points or more, they get everything from Lismore up, so Lismore is in Queensland now. It’s in the rules.

In the build-up to Queensland’s annexation of the northernmost frontier of New South Wales, various state identities and bodies engaged in elaborate ritual declarations of loyalty and supremacy; the respective Twitter accounts of the New South Wales and Queensland Police services are a good example.

But when it comes to being loudly from somewhere, none can surpass former PM Kevin “I’m from Queensland and I’m here to help” Rudd, who posted this Vine yesterday afternoon. It’s simultaneously infuriating and oddly mesmerising.

Over and over. On and on. Never beginning, never ending. What is this malevolent power? Is this the soundtrack of Hell? Why can’t you tear your gaze away? It’s like the earwax thing, only on loop.
