Here Are All The Things To Celebrate And Complain About From Today’s iOS 10 Update
Positive: YOU CAN FINALLY DELETE THE STOCKS APP. Negative: it was randomly turning people's phones off all morning.
In news that should surprise absolutely no one who’s previously avoided an Apple software update, the new update for iPhones, iOS 10, has glitched for some people. After downloading the software, these poor, beleaguered users were instructed to shut down their smartphones or iPads and then found themselves unable to switch them back on without plugging the device into a computer.
Online complaints are standard after an Apple update, regardless of glitches, because let’s be honest: change is terrifying. But this time it was particularly prominent with hundreds being temporarily bricked.

Of course, those who hadn’t yet jumped on board with the update were feeling particularly smug.
when you see everybody updating they phone to #iOS10 and complaining about it but you still have #iOS9 https://t.co/Q12Twnyfrf

This isn’t the first time Apple has had trouble with a software update. The iOS 9 update had similar issues during its original roll-out, with some users receiving a mysterious “Software Update Failed” message when they tried to install.
Apple has now assured everyone today’s bug has been fixed and the update is safe to download without turning your phone into a useless brick of metal and glass. (However, iPhone and iPad users are encouraged to back up their iOS before installing).
The update itself is a mixed bag. It includes a “rise to wake” feature, activating apps as soon as you pick up your phone, and better interaction between Siri and the rest of your apps (so now your phone will make you feel like a genuine all-powerful god). Messages now allows you to turn off the ‘read’ receipts for individual conversations; Maps has a new feature allowing you to pinpoint exactly where you parked you car; and Mail has made unsubscribing from mailing lists much easier. Perhaps most important of all: iOS 10 also allows you to FINALLY delete the dreaded Stocks app.
That one’s been a long time coming.
"Your storage is full" thanks Apple, I'll just go delete some photos of my friends and family but at least I'll always have the stocks app

I've never been so happy to delete something as I am deleting the Stocks app. Dreams do come true. #iOS10 pic.twitter.com/DQcaSs3loU

Sadly, though, the update has also changed the look of fonts and some of your favourite emojis (running-in-jeans man is no longer wearing jeans!) as well as removing the slide-to-unlock feature which has people less pleased.
I jog in jeans so it's disappointing to see #iOS10 providing more ammunition to all of my bullies. pic.twitter.com/PmuYT1kFfq

Notably, the handgun emoji has also been replaced by a water pistol and all emojis can now be sent 3x bigger than their normal size.
Users: We want more battery Life.
Apple: You get fu*king bigger Emojis.#IOS10 pic.twitter.com/Gdcy4knnbg— Nebeel ? (@hyp3rfr3ak) September 14, 2016
We get it, change is hard and no one likes to be even temporarily phoneless, but it’s worth remembering this new techno-fail comes as the internet is still melting down over the troublesome Samsung Galaxy Note 7. It has literally been bursting into flames and has since been recalled around the world. Personally I’d rather a phone that didn’t turn on for a few hours over a phone that burned my six-year-old child.
