Sometimes the internet is a projection of the depravity of nightmare garbage people, but other times it serves as a nice reminder of the fantastic ways we can react to shitty circumstances. Good news: this is one of those second times!

Since the horrific racially motivated murders in Charleston, many Americans have called for a ban of the Confederate flag, with varying degrees of success. Now The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People argue that all Confederate symbols should be removed from the iconic Stone Mountain in Atlanta, Georgia, which depicts Confederate figures Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.

Since its completion in 1972, Stone Mountain has been a symbol of white supremacy to some, and a nifty bit of rock art to others (fun fact: Martin Luther King Jr. referenced it in his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech! Not so fun fact: it was the site of the revival of the Ku Klux Klan in 1915). While destroying the monument would probably cause more ill will than good, an artist called Mack Williams has come up with a potential solution.

In order to make Stone Mountain more representative of all Georgians, Mack began a moveon.org petition to add famous hip hop duo and Georgia natives Outkast to the mountain. “By no means do we wish to erase or destroy the current carving, which, regardless of its context, is an impressive and historic work of art,” he writes. “We simply wish to add new carvings, of Atlanta hip-hop duo Outkast, to the mountainside. There’s plenty of room.”

Mack suggests that Big Boi and Andre 3000 be carved riding in a Cadillac (in a nod to their debut Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, presumably), which he thinks will “blend in nicely” with the Confederates on horse back. At last glance, the petition had garnered 11,178 signatures.

“Outkast are two of the greatest Georgians in the history of our state,” Mack continues. “It’s about time the Empire State of the South paid proper tribute to them, while also improving a great monument and tourist attraction.”

Safe to say, Big Boi is stoked with the idea.
