There Are Two Videos Of What Christopher Pyne Called Bill Shorten. They Both Tell A Very Different Story.

Grub or c*nt? You decide.

Earlier today, a clip taken from last night’s Question Time started doing the rounds. It featured everyone’s favourite Christopher Pyne roundly mocking Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, before calling him, quite undeniably, a cunt.

We first saw the video on the Guardian’s Budget2014 live blog (scroll down to the post at 12.47pm); it also featured on ninemsn, from which it has since been deleted. The video was then uploaded to Youtube with the “you’re such a cunt” line slowed down, before being posted to Pedestrian.

Fairly undeniable in that clip, right?

Well, Bill Shorten’s office says he doesn’t remember being called the c-word, and Christopher Pyne’s people flatly denied it — they claim he used the word “grub” (which is, to be fair, the kind of word he would use.)

And now there’s a second video circulating which was sourced from Fairfax’s live blog (scroll down to the post at 12.52pm), who shot the whole exchange from a different angle, and with crisper audio.

And this clip tells a different story:

Was it “grub”? Was it “cunt”? Did the audio of one video get doctored to make Pyne look even more like a baddie? Why is that second video embed so goddamn small?

These are all tough questions to answer. Maybe we’ll never know.
