A secret "Spice source" says one of them isn't involved and, help no stop I can't breathe I am dead.

Earlier today, The Sun‘s head entertainment reporter Dan Wootton hinted he had a big “showbiz exclusive” on its way. After promising he would stay up through the night to share the news, he drip-fed information. It had something to do with a girl group. It was “HUGE”. Then, this morning he dropped the bomb:

THE SPICE GIRLS are re-forming for an epic worldwide tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of their first single ‘Wannabe’ — without Victoria Beckham. According to Wootton, this was all decided in “a secret meeting in London last month” and negotiations are about to begin to set the details in place. This would of course be incredible news for fans of the ’90s supergroup. The Spice Girls first started their indefinite hiatus after the release of the ironically named Forever, and have previously only reunited for a tour in 2007 and single performance at the 2012 London Olympics.

According to the reporter’s secret “Spice source”, the absence of Posh Spice in this latest reformation is due to other work commitments and the fear a tour could “tarnish [the group’s] legacy”. “For a long time they put off the idea of working any projects without her because they wanted to stay as a five-piece, but with the 20th anniversary coming up they realised it was a case of now or never.”

The news has since been re-reported widely but there hasn’t actually been any official confirmation and no named sources have yet made any comment. There have, however, been a bunch of little hints.

Last week on The Tonight Show, Mel B told Jimmy Fallon that she wanted the group to get back together and last night she posted a relatively out of character #TBT picture of her as Scary Spice. Despite the caption stating, “The world deserves to hear your voice!” she still hasn’t said a single word to confirm or deny the rumours.

Despite reportedly not being involved, Victoria Beckham did the same. In true Posh fashion, she posted an obscure little message alongside a nostalgia-inducing picture on Twitter that, in context, has left fans confused by her aloofness and desperate for her attention.

No word has come through yet from Mel B or Emma Bunton but, because nobody ever really changes, Sporty has spent the majority of the last few months posting on Twitter about juice cleanses and Baby has been sharing adorable photos of herself in strawberry patches. Meanwhile, yesterday was Ginger’s birthday and she’s rudely focussing on pictures of herself go-karting, having nice meals, spending time with her lovely family, and blowing out birthday candles in old-timey pubs.

GIVE US SOME FUCKING ANSWERS, GINGER.

In the name of journalism, I’ll continue to stalk the social media accounts of these former pop stars for you, but while we wait, please quietly drift away into a blissful Friday afternoon ’90s YouTube hole and hope for the best:
