The Simpsons hasn’t done much good in a while — the fact that the opening episode of the new season was a crossover with damn Family Guy is proof enough of that — but the latest couch gag is dark, disturbing, oddly brilliant and legit the weirdest damn thing you will ever see.
Holy shit. Am I high? Have I been licking toads again? I swear I’ve been clean for, like, several hours.
Anyway! Anyway. The trailer’s the work of American cartoonist Don Hertzfeldt, who has an incredibly bleak, subversive style that is as hilarious as it is unsettling. You might remember ‘Rejected’, a nine-minute roller coaster of steadily increasing madness that takes Hertzfeldt’s hatred of consumerism and advertising to weird places, and by “weird places” I mean “a happy cloud drowning in its own anal blood”.
Maybe The Simpsons is so completely out of ideas it’ll come full circle by just outsourcing all its creativity to genuinely creative people like Hertzfeldt. Honestly, I could watch this thing all day.
