The Pope Is Raffling Off All The Cool, Expensive Stuff People Have Given Him
I think we can all agree that this guy is much better than the previous guy.
So, we’re all agreed that this guy is much better than the last few guys, yeah? Great.
However if you needed something more to burnish Papa Frank’s fun Pope credentials, then how about the raffle he’s currently running in which for a mere €10 you can win the lavish gifts that people keep on giving him. And boy does the list just make Francis sound like the biggest hipster to ever pull on a novelty hat. The prize includes:
– A brand new Fiat Panda. According to its website it has patented ‘Squircle Design’.
– Three bicycles of differing colours. It isn’t specified as to whether the bikes are multi-gear or fixies.
– One tandem bicycle, for when you’ve just got to Wes Anderson it up a notch.
– A HD video camera.
– An espresso coffee machine.
– A JBL brand wireless speaker.
– A shiny, white Panama hat.
And a whole bunch more, as detailed on this overly ornate raffle ticket.

All the money is going to the Pope’s many charitable endeavours (a recent example – he’s installing public showers around St Peter’s Square so that homeless people can wash themselves). Apparently previous Popes had also often donated their gifts to charity, just in a less conspicuous and entertaining way. In which case, I’m sure the children at the local orphanage would have just loved their new coffee machine.
Oh, and then there’s the news that he’s inviting total non-Catholic punk rock icon Patti Smith to sing at the Vatican Christmas concert on December 13. Francis has also previously announced that he’s a fan of Lou Reed and the films of Federico Fellini.
Oh yeah. Total hipster.
