The First Full Trailer For New Game Of Thrones Is Finally Here
Now with added David Bowie.
FINALLY. No more shitty ten-second clips of ravens. No more infuriating teasers buried in inspirational montage videos from HBO. The first full trailer for season five of Game Of Thrones is here and, clocking in at just over two full minutes of bizarre David Bowie-soundtracked bliss, it’s nothing short of glorious.
So here’s the good news: the trailer is pretty satisfying. After premiering at IMAX screenings all across the US yesterday, the clip quickly leaked online (BECAUSE OF COURSE IT DID) and has since been met with giddy excitement from everyone with a working internet connection. To feed this mounting hysteria, HBO released the official HD version on the show’s Facebook page this morning and followed it up with an entire album of photos from the new season.
But here’s the bad news: you’ll have to wait at least another year for the next book. George RR Martin’s publisher yesterday confirmed to The Guardian that there are no plans to release the highly-anticipated sixth instalment of A Song of Ice and Fire any time in 2015.
Readers will instead have to make do with an illustrated compilation of the three prequel novellas The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight.
“I know how many people are waiting, how long they have been waiting, how anxious they are,” Martin wrote on his LiveJournal last month. Yes, he uses LiveJournal. “I am still working on WINDS. When it’s done, I will announce it here. There won’t be any clues to decipher, any codes or hidden meanings, the announcement will be straightforward and to the point.”
All this is leading many to speculate whether the show will actually overtake the books. This would be a no doubt disastrous turn of events for hardcore fans, but a somewhat welcome thing for those of us who don’t like watching the show next to a bunch of smug know-it-alls.
Either way, April can’t come soon enough.
